A tragic incident occurred in the Pelion area in which a 74-year-old diver died after being caught in a fisherman's net. The 55-year-old man was found guilty of manslaughter in Volos Misdemeanor Court.
During the meeting of the judicial commission, consisting of three members, it was established that The accused, while fishing, discovered the lifeless body of a diver in his nets and, without informing the authorities, threw him back into the sea(!). The court sentenced him to a suspended 22-month prison sentence for negligence leading to the death of an elderly man.
The incident occurred on the morning of September 12, 2021 in Xinovrisi when the accused, who was fishing in the area, was retrieving his nets when he discovered a diver entangled in them. According to the Volos Port Authority, Realizing what had happened, he threw the body back into the sea without notifying the relevant authorities.
During a court hearing held recently, the accused admitted that he did not inform the coast guard about the incident and threw the diver's body back into the seahowever, denied that he was somehow involved in his death or knew the deceased.
