The situation in the center of Rhodes has reached tragic proportions due to hundreds of illegal immigrants flooding the city.

According to the local newspaper rodiaki, There are more than 700 illegal immigrants in the city, and their flow is almost daily. They set up temporary camps in parks, on sidewalks and in various central locations, with makeshift shelters made from cardboard boxes and tents.

Local residents are upset and demand that they be immediately transferred to other places to relieve congestion in the city.

The president of the Southern Dodecanese Police Union, Manolis Androulakis, in a statement to the newspaper Ροδιακή, argues that buildings in Leros and Kos should be vacated to provide space for housing illegal immigrants in Rhodes. He complains that transfers of foreigners are not being carried out in the structure on Kos, which is only half full, and those that were supposed to be carried out in structures on the Greek mainland have also been cancelled.

According to him, an agreement was reached to transfer 120 illegal immigrants from Rhodes to Piraeus, and from there to Diavata, but this never happened. But the point is not to transfer illegal immigrants to Athens and Piraeus, and not even to “cleanse” the island of Rhodes from crowds of illegal immigrants. The question is that all illegal migrants should be immediately deported from the country, because they simply should not be on Greek territory.
