24-year-old man sentenced by mixed jury of Thessaloniki by 19 years and 3 months imprisonment for beating and sexually assaulting his 22-year-old partner.

The man was sentenced in absentia because he did not appear in court and was not represented by a lawyer; the court's decision was unanimous. In particular, he was found guilty of committed rape and attempted rape, causing bodily harm to a pregnant woman during rape, causing bodily harm to a minor, domestic threats during rape and insult, while the court did not recognize any mitigating circumstances.

In addition, the judges decided that the defendant's appeal would not have a suspensive effect on the execution of the sentence, which means that if he was found and arrested, he would be taken to prison.

The hearing heard that the woman endured a ten-month nightmare at the hands of her martial artist partner, with daily threats, physical attacks even while she was pregnant with their child, and sexual assault just weeks after. how she gave birth to their baby girl. Moreover, in another fit of anger and with extreme cruelty, the accused beat the baby and threw him into the refrigerator.

These actions allegedly took place from the beginning of 2021 to October of the same year, and the accused had previously been convicted by the Thessaloniki court for domestic violence. According to the testimony of a close relative of the girl, he saw her several times with bruises on her face and body, but the girl denied that the accused beat her and claimed that she had hurt herself on pieces of furniture, etc. In August 2021, as he said, she became a victim of domestic violence, and he hit her again when she was looking for a shelter for battered women.

Regarding the rape, she admitted that the accused beat her when she did not want to have sexual intercourse, pulled her hair and used physical violence to force her to submit to his appetites. A month after she gave birth, the accused raped and beat her again.

Finally, the victim found the strength to go to a battered women's shelter and told police about what she had to endure at the hands of her partner. She said that for months she was afraid to talk about the nightmare because the accused threatened to harm her, her family and their child.

In summing up, the court prosecutor, in particular, said that the case was clear in terms of facts, and characterized the defendant as a ruthless and manipulative person who belittled his partner and tried to justify his actions with violence and intimidation.

“Acts of violence have been proven. They also occurred against a child, an infant. The defendant did not even respect the condition of his partner. Less than a month had passed, he forced her to perform a sexual act with violence and threats, and also, without hesitation, tried again a few days later to commit the same act, but it failed. All the alleged incidents have been proven,” – said the prosecutor and recommended that the accused be found guilty of all the acts accused of him.

It should be noted that during preliminary questioning, the Dutch native denied the charges against him and claimed that his partner reported on him out of revenge.

It is noteworthy that the accused of serious crimes was not only not detained, but was not even restricted in his movement, as a result of which, with a high probability, he had already left Greece.
