Education Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis, speaking on SKAI radio on Monday morning, praised the move to ban mobile phones in schools as “impressively successful”.
The official noted that since the beginning of the school year and the introduction of the ban, 6,043 cases of expulsion of violators from schools have been recorded. In addition, Mr. Pierrakakis also touched upon the topic of complaints about cases of violence within the school, which were recorded on the bullying prevention platform. He reported that Since the launch of the platform, a total of 501 messages have been registered, of which 213 this year.
Regarding the issue of “forever students,” Mr. Pierrakakis said that the law passed in 2022 regulating the maximum duration of study will finally be implemented.
The minister also drew attention to security at universities, noting that the situation in this area has improved. As for non-state (private) universities, Mr. Pierrakakis emphasized that there was interest in them and suggested that applications would begin to arrive by the first year of study.
