A 23-year-old man has been arrested and accused of possessing underage pornography downloaded via the Internet. The Department for Combating Cybercrime spontaneously opened a criminal case against the young man.
How is the criminal identified?
According to the police, digital analysis and use of data obtained from foreign intelligence services were carried out to establish the identity of the criminal within the framework of international police cooperation. A specific Internet user identified in Greece, using a large number of electronic traces, gained access to a certain Internet application, where he distributed materials about sexual abuse of minors.
This became known to the Athens Public Prosecutor's Office during a digital and online investigation, and after contacting Internet providers, the identity and place of residence of the person involved was established.
What was found on the guy?
The following items were found and seized from the criminal's home: a mobile phone, a laptop computer, a portable storage device (USB) and 2 internal computer hard drives.
The corresponding statement states that during the inspection of the crime scene, a number of files (photos and videos) of sexual abuse of minors were discovered on the seized digital evidence, which was the reason for the arrest as part of the self-incrimination procedure.
The seized digital evidence will be sent to the appropriate department of the Criminal Investigation Department for further laboratory examination, and the arrested person will appear before the appropriate prosecutor.
