The “Greek FBI” was “burnt down” even before the structure began its work, because certain people from the police apparatus made sure that drain names of 554 members Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and the entire organization scheme!
From the name of the new service it is clear that it will deal with cases related to criminal organizations, that is, the mafia. Now the mafia knows the full details of all the police officers who will pursue them, as well as what and who will look for. This will allow them, using other information on the Internet, to collect additional data on all the police officers in the newly created criminal service. And the latter will become an easy “target” for them in the event of a retaliatory strike or other suspicious approach.
The leak occurred on Tuesday morning on a police news website and the goings-on within security agencies, with officers questioning not only how the leak, the information and the recording occurred, but also what the purpose behind it was.
According to some reports, EL.AS. compiled 5-6 documents with data on 554 police officers in the relevant services in Athens and Thessaloniki, which were sent electronically to dozens of services, without taking care to save the data.
According to the same sources, these files were posted in unofficial online groups for informing each other about uniformed personnel on Viber and other similar platforms where the leak is believed to have occurred in the problematic selection of police officers.
Greek police chiefs are questioning why the political leadership and Michalis Chrysochidis have not yet demanded an investigation into the matter. In a statement yesterday, the Athens Police Association (APAA) said: “We condemn the publication-leak of personal data of hundreds of our colleagues from a specific site. We are not at all interested in whether this is a mistake or whether someone considered the publication “exclusive information”, the only thing that worries us is the result, since the exact data of the police officers of the newly created service, which in the future will play an important role in the fight against crime, has become available to everyone.
For our part, ΕΑΣΥΑ, together with our legal department, is already working to take appropriate legal measures to protect our members. In conclusion, I would like to say that the deafening silence of management regarding this entire incident, until now, has created a negative and alarming impression!”.
For its part, the Police Association EL.AΣ. Attica noted in a statement yesterday: “We do not understand 'exclusive' news with any implications it may have on a police investigation and operation or targeted at our colleagues.”.
In turn, the leaders of the above-mentioned site stated that the publication of this list of 554 names was “inadvertent”. “Never before in Greece has there been such a large-scale leak of “hard personal data” of police officers, and even of such a special unit. There should have been provision to protect this list of hundreds of police officers as they faced clashes with Greek and foreign gangs.
Instead, they were treated as third-tier agents and were not given any precautions, as was the case with counterterrorism and other agencies, to ensure that the FBI's roster was shared and ultimately exposed. There have still been no requests for an investigation into how this happened....”
This is what National Police officials told TA NEA about the unprecedented leak of the names of all 554 police officers from the newly created Organized Crime Directorate (ΔΑΟΕ), which intends to deal a sharp blow to assassins, fuel and cigarette smuggling, illegal trade and money laundering schemes, and so on.
The publication of the officers' names caused confusion and concern (not to say panic) in EL.AS., and a reaction from trade union activists.
Is this just stupidity or was it done intentionally?
I think that organized crime should royally thank the official (just in case, let me clarify that this is sarcasm).
