Caregiver's husband sexually assaults 84-year-old woman with dementia

A 55-year-old man caught on secret CCTV sexually assaulting an 84-year-old woman suffering from dementia was arrested on Tuesday. A hidden camera was installed in the bedroom by her son. The man arrested is the husband of the victim's caregiver.

According to preliminary information, the bedridden victim lived alone in her house in the town of Orchomenos in Viotia. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon and the victim's son immediately brought the video to the local police.

The perpetrator, an Albanian citizen, was captured on video entering the house while his wife, a caregiver, was away. According to the state television company ERTthe criminal went into the bedroom of an elderly woman and committed lewd acts against the sleeping victim.

Her son saw the sexual assault of his mother live on his mobile phone, as he installed a camera in her bedroom. He immediately reported the matter to the police, and Livadia security officers, in collaboration with Orchomenos police officers, located the alleged criminal in his home and handcuffed him.

In the presence of the prosecutor, a search was carried out in the house, during which the clothes he was wearing at the time of the sexual attack were found, and his mobile phone was confiscated. The 56-year-old man admitted to what he had done and stated that this is what came to his mind at that moment, and that’s what he did, and also apologized.

Police are investigating whether he sexually assaulted the woman in the past. The man was arrested on October 15 and taken to the prosecutor of the Livadia District Court. A case has been opened for the rape of a physically and mentally disabled woman. The woman's son apparently suspected his mother was being sexually abused and so installed a hidden camera.
