September this year, despite normal temperatures for the season, became the second warmest month in the last 14 years in the Aegean Sea and Crete.
According to the 53 weather stations of the National Observatory meteo.gr, which have been operating continuously since 2010, in most areas of Greece average maximum daily temperatures in September were at levels typical for this seasonwith the exception of Crete and the Aegean islands.
In Athens the average monthly deviation of the maximum temperature was 0.6°C, while 12 of the 30 days of the month were warmer than normal for this season indicators. In Thessaloniki 16 days of the month were warmer than the average for the 2010-2019 period, and the average maximum temperature for the month hovered 0.3°C above normal.
