“The current Georgian leadership simply honestly assesses the past. They said that “we want historical reconciliation,” stated the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrov.
“And in what form, in what form this reconciliation can occur is up to the countries themselves: both Abkhazia and South Ossetia. They are neighbors with Georgia, some contacts there are inevitable anyway. If there is interest on all sides in normalizing these relations , ensuring non-aggression agreements… We will be ready to help if the parties are interested”said Lavrov.
The Georgian government positively assessed Lavrov’s statementsaid the Secretary General “Georgian Dream” and Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze. “The fact that Russia welcomes reconciliation and will contribute to it is certainly positive. However, I would say that after these statements it would be nice to take effective steps.”Kaladze said.

In particular, he proposed to begin developing a plan withdrawal of Russian military from Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Previously Founder “Georgian Dream” Bidzina Ivanishvili promised that the Georgian authorities “they will find strength within themselves” apologize for the war with South Ossetia in 2008.
Previously we have already reportedthat the Russian authorities may agree to the return of Abkhazia and South Ossetia to Georgia (with broad rights) if Georgia turns away from the West towards Moscow, which, in fact, has already begun to happen after the adoption of the law on foreign agents.
