Greek high school students create a self-driving car

Philippos Efstasiadis, Michael Agapakis and Stelios Fiotakis, three seniors from Anavryta Specialized High School in Maroussi, Greece, have won the international Race Car Challenge organized by the Beaver Works Summer Institute (BWSI) in Boston, Massachusetts.

In an interview with the ERTNews “Connections” program, they shared their impressions. “It was an incredible and amazing experience that every high school student should have, even if they don't win. The knowledge and skills we gained were simply amazing. As for America, I don't have words to describe how amazing it was. It was a unique chance to experience a new culture and understand what the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is really about, and not what we see here (nand to the homeland),” Michael Agapakis shares his impressions.

Looking back to 2021, he adds: “We started working on this topic when we announced participation in the pan-Hellenic competition. Unfortunately, in the first year we could not succeed, but in the second year luck smiled on us and we became winners. That’s how we got the chance to go to America.”
