Fake Kuleba and exposure of the crypto network

US President Joe Biden announced the exposure of another crypto network that helped the Russian Federation circumvent sanctions.

“European truth” writesWhat Biden said about this in his statement on support for Ukraine on September 26:

“To combat Russian sanctions evasion and money laundering, the Departments of Justice, the Treasury Department, and the U.S. Secret Service today took action to shut down the global crypto network, in coordination with our international partners.”

Meanwhile, The New York Times, citing a letter from the Senate security service and two anonymous officials, reports about a telephone conversation between former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba and Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee Ben Cardin.

According to the NYT, Cardin received a call via Zoom from a person posing as the former head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. According to Cardin, he behaved “atypically” and asked about permission to strike the Russian Federation with long-range missiles. The letter notes that he first received an email from “Dmitry Kuleba” with a request to connect with him via Zoom. During the video call, the man looked and spoke like the ex-minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

But Cardin became suspicious when the interlocutor began asking “politically motivated questions in connection with the upcoming elections.” As noted in the letter, the man was interested in the senator’s opinion regarding long-range strikes on Russian territory. Cardin then ended the call and reported to State Department authorities what had happened.

The Senate security email did not identify Cardin by name, but two Senate officials familiar with the matter confirmed that he was the person in question.

Cardin partially confirmed this episode in a statement Wednesday night. He admitted that “in recent days, the attacker has fraudulently tried to communicate with me, posing as a famous person.” At the same time, he did not indicate that this person was Kuleba and did not make a single reference to Ukraine.

Earlier, the coordinator for strategic communications of the US National Security Council, John Kirby, said that Americans should take seriously the Russian Federation’s intentions to interfere in the American elections. And a spokesman for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) said Russia is creating more content using artificial intelligence to influence the US presidential election than any other country.
