Russian Foreign Minister on Russian Gas Supplies

Sergey Lavrov, head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, on gas supplies to Europe. He noted in an interview with Sky News Arabia that Russia always fulfills long-term commitments and will not “shoot itself in the foot” by refusing profitable trade.

According to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, mutually beneficial cooperation in gas supplies has been growing since the 1970s, and the European economy lived off cheap energy resources. Now EU meets its needs with LNG, including American. However, if the European Union wants to return to Russian supplies, Moscow will not abandon the agreements. BB.LV publication quotes Lavrova:

“Olaf Scholz said that Russia itself stopped gas supplies to Europe. Why lie? Everyone knows how it all happened. Even under Merkel, the US forced Germany not to turn on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, to use more expensive American LNG. <...> Despite the fact that three lines of Nord Stream were blown up, the pipeline system remains in place, including through Ukraine, through Turkey, and through the Black Sea. If it is mutually beneficial, why shoot yourself in the foot?”

Our previous publication told that at least 19 companies from 11 countries of the European Union have filed lawsuits against the Russian gas monopoly Gazprom demanding compensation of $20.6 billion for breaches of contracts and undelivered gas. This is the amount that Gazprom's unsuccessful attempt to freeze Europe in order to achieve concessions on Ukraine resulted in, which resulted in not only record losses for the company, but also lawsuits. Their total amount reached 18.6 billion euros, or $20.6 billion.
