The attack took place on the evening of September 19 near the famous Erasmus Bridge. One person was killed and another was injured.
Dutch newspaper Telegraaf and NOS television quoted witnesses as saying the attacker shouted “Allahu Akbar” and was armed with two large knives, which he used to stab passers-by indiscriminately.
There would have been more victims if fitness trainer Reniel Litecia had not been nearby. He stopped the attacker with a walking stick and restaurant chairs before the police arrived.
