A retired police officer and his accomplices have been arrested for defrauding and extorting an elderly woman.
The officer in question was awarded for his role in pursuing Nikos Masiotis after an armed robbery in Achaia in 2014, during which he was wounded in a shootout.
The police officer resigned and took early retirement due to health problems. Now, according to police, he has been arrested for defrauding an elderly woman from Brahnaika in Achaia. The former policeman and his accomplices extorted 40,000 euros on the pretext of an urgent operation for her daughter who had been in a road accident.
The former police officer was awarded the Police Cross in 2020 and later retired. He pleaded guilty after his arrest.

“Following a methodical and thorough investigation carried out by the police officers of the Patras Sub-Directorate of Security, a case of fraud was discovered that was committed on 10-09-2024 in the Patras region. In this case, a case of fraud has been opened against a man whose full details have been established.
In particular, the accused, acting together with his accomplices who are wanted, on 10-09-2024 in Patras deceived an elderly woman by telephone, under the pretext of an urgent need to send her daughter for an operation due to an accident that had occurred earlier, and took 40,000 euros from her.
During the preliminary investigation carried out by the police officers of the Patras Sub-Directorate of Security, it was revealed that the accused went on a motorcycle to the house of an elderly woman, from where he received 40,000 euros. The case materials formed against the accused and his accomplices will be transferred to the Patras prosecutor, and his motorcycle will be confiscated as a means of facilitating the commission of the crime.”
