“All necessary services are involved in the rescue operation. I am grateful to each and every one who from the first minutes after the attack helps people, saves lives. The Russian bastard will definitely answer for this attack. And we tell everyone in the world who has the power to stop this terror again and again: air defense systems and missiles for them are needed in Ukraine, not in a warehouse.”– Zelensky emphasized.
He once again reminded his partners that Ukraine needs permission from its partners to launch long-range strikes with Western weapons against the Russian Federation, which would protect it from Russian terrorism. He stressed that this is needed “now, not sometime later.”
“Every day of delay is, unfortunately, loss of life. Eternal memory to all whose lives were taken by Russia!” – Zelensky added.
What the Ministry of Defense says
The Ministry simultaneously stated that “Today Poltava is experiencing a terrible day.” They also confirmed that the Russian aggressor had carried out a barbaric attack on the city’s educational institution.
“According to the information available, the enemy used two ballistic missiles. The time interval between the alarm and the arrival of the deadly missiles was so short that it caught people in the act of evacuating to a bomb shelter,” – they say in the department.
They reported that one of the institute's buildings was partially destroyed, and many people were under the rubble. Thanks to the coordinated work of rescuers and doctors, 25 people were saved, 11 of whom were freed from under the rubble. Rescuers are currently continuing their work.
“We express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims. This tragedy is yet another proof of the treachery of the enemy, who does not stop at any crime, trying to intimidate Ukrainians. We call on everyone to remain calm and trust only official sources of information. Any speculation on this tragedy is unacceptable,” – the Ministry of Defense added.

Ukrainian Telegram channels have begun to dispute the statement MP Bezuhlawho claimed that the arrival at the Poltava Military Institute was in formation.
Publics, without citing a specific source, claim that there was no formation, and that the attack was not on the parade ground, but on the building in which people were located.
Information is also being disseminated that as a result of the arrival It wasn't the cadets who died, but the contract soldiers and mobilized military personnel. It is specified that the officers took the cadets to the shelter, but the mobilized and contract soldiers did not go down there.
At the same time, this contradicts the official statement of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, which stated that too little time passed from the alarm to the arrival for anyone to have time to go down to the shelter.
Ex-MP Mosiychuk reportedthat the number of victims could reach 600. He believes that the military leadership is also to blame for allowing such a concentration of personnel in one place.
