Souvlaki, one of the Greeks' favorite dishes, is becoming something of a luxury: in 2021, a serving of gyros cost about 2.8 euros, and three years later, it ranged from 3.30 to 4.5 euros.
Souvlaki is becoming more expensive “by the day”: some shops charge around 5 euros for a gyros. In areas such as Paleo Faliro, the price of a wrapped souvlaki (to take away) is estimated at around 4.5 euros, while in Kolonos its price fluctuates between 4 and 4.2 euros.
The owner of the kebab shop noted that the price for 1 kebab reaches 3.3 euros, and if someone decides to sit in the store, they will pay 4 euros. “Everything has become more expensive, raw materials have become more expensive compared to 2020,” he notes.
