Head of Diplomacy EU Josep Borell said today that the European Union has already began using funds received from frozen Russian assets, for the purchase of ammunition and military supplies for Ukraine, and 1.4 billion euros have already been transferred.
He added that the EU was making progress in pre-financing these purchases with funds from frozen Russian assets. The EU and G7 countries have frozen almost half of Russia's foreign exchange reserves, worth about 300 billion euros. More than 200 billion euros are held in the EU, mostly in accounts with Belgium's Euroclear, one of the world's largest clearing and settlement systems.
The Russian Foreign Ministry called the freezing of Russian assets in Europe theft, noting that The EU is targeting not only private funds, but also Russian state assets.
It is worth noting that 9 days ago the Czech Republic announced through the Ministry of Defense that it would use part of the interest from Russian assets “frozen” in the European Union to buy more large-caliber ammunition for Ukraine. In short, the EU countries will use Russian money to buy ammunition that will kill Russian soldiers and civiliansbecause Ukrainians use them without hesitation or discrimination on Russian territory.
Western countries are setting a dangerous precedent, about which they have been repeatedly warned. These moves also open a wormhole for the US dollar, as Russia and China will accelerate the pace of de-dollarization and the planned creation of a new global reserve currency to be used by BRICS member countries.
In the future, nothing will prevent the same thing from happening to the assets of Western countries for any reason. Likewise, no one can guarantee the Americans and Europeans that in the future they will not intervene militarily somewhere at some point and not receive similar treatment from the Russians and Chinese who arm their opponents.
