The Greek Olympic athletics team is back in the news for negative reasons after the Hellenic Athletics Federation announced positive doping test one of the members of the delegation.
The process follows the same steps as in the previous case, when the athlete was notified before the delegation's departure to Parisexcept that the athlete who tested positive has already competed but will not continue to compete in the Games. It is also the first to be notified, along with ΣΕΓΑΣ and the Hellenic Olympic Committee.
The notification was made before she competed in the Games and if she had qualified, she would not have been allowed to compete in the final. She could have skipped the qualifying round but chose to do otherwise after being informed of the positive sample. The penalty she faces is four years and she will miss the next Olympic Games.
The Greek delegation in the Olympic Village was in great excitement as the athlete told her teammates about the positive sample and, naturally, the news spread quickly.
SEGAS is now very worried, as this is the second doping case in a very short time, and according to the law, it risks losing a large part of its state subsidies. The Greek Olympic Committee is also in turmoil, as it is being vilified internationally for a positive result in the Olympic Games.
