The ships leave the port of Piraeus and head for the islands with great congestion as the first holidaymakers of August pack their bags and leave the stuffy city centres.
From early morning, the streets leading to Piraeus are filled with traffic. The port itself is a huddle and chaos. Travelers with suitcases fill the pier from which the ships leave for the Cyclades and Dodecanese. The ships are highly occupied, reaching 100%, despite the high prices of tickets.
It is noted that this morning, Shipping Minister Christos Stylianides visited the port of Piraeus to receive a full briefing from coast guard officers on security issues, as well as passenger flow.
