Survey: Greek schoolchildren have the lowest rates of creative thinking


The results of the performance of schoolchildren who took part in the PISA 2022 survey in the additional area of ​​​​Creative Thinking were announced today, Tuesday, June 18.

Greece in this new area was included in the group countries with lower than average performance by OECD countries. In particular, Greece is in 38th place among 64 countries, scoring 27 points.

Singapore took first place (41 points), followed by Korea and Canada (38 points). They are followed by: Australia (37 points), New Zealand, Estonia and Finland (36 points), Denmark, Latvia and Belgium (35 points), as well as Poland and Portugal (34 points).

These countries, as noted by the Institute for Education Policy (IEP) in a related press release, also achieve high scores in the core academic subjects covered by PISA (mathematics, reading comprehension, science).

It is worth noting that creative thinking defined in the study as the individual's ability to develop, evaluate, and refine ideas that can lead to original and effective solutions, the acquisition of new knowledge, and the fruitful expression of imagination.

As the Ministry of Education, Religion and Sports and the IEP jointly stated: “MWe aim to further develop students' creative thinking through a comprehensive package of measures. Today's survey and analysis of its data points the way to changes that will be enacted starting next school year.“.
