Hungary was fined 200 million euros, and must pay another 1 million euros for each day of delay (video)

The European Court has ordered Hungary to pay a fine of 200 million euros for failing to comply with European Union asylum rules.

The court called the disregard for the rules “extremely serious” and “systematic” writes euronews. In addition to the fine, Hungary will have to pay one million euros daily for late payments.

In December 2020, the court ruled that Budapest had failed to comply with the bloc's policies on providing international protection and returning illegal migrants. The statement says:

“The Court found that Hungary failed to take the measures necessary to implement the 2020 decision. This failure, which consists of deliberately avoiding the application of the common policies of the European Union as a whole, constitutes an unprecedented and extremely serious violation of European law.”
