Airbnb has implemented an updated cancellation policy that clarifies terms and conditions, including refunds to hosts and guests.
An important update was recently sent to platform users by Airbnb's management company, with changes that were implemented regardless of booking time.
The innovation concerns extraordinary events, which are called “force majeure” circumstances.
The question is whether (and what) emergency situation may cause the specified services to be not provided without (or with reduced) compensation for the traveler platform user. According to Airbnb, “We are updating the Special Circumstances Policy and changing its title to make the topic easier to understand. The revised force majeure policy will apply to all travel and experiences taking place from June 6, 2024, regardless of booking date.
What is changing in politics? Predictable weather at the location of the reservation expressly qualifies for the coverage offered if it results in another covered event, such as travel restrictions imposed by a government agency or a large-scale utility disruption.
The policy will only apply to events taking place at the booking location. Events that affect a guest's ability to travel to the booking location are no longer covered.
