Drivers who have vision problems are required to wear glasses or other assistive devices while driving.
For drivers who are required to wear glasses, this is indicated on the driver's license with an additional general code “01” (vision correction and/or protection), which is expanded if necessary to provide more specific information, as shown below:
- -01.01, for using glasses
- -01.02, for the use of lenses or contact lenses
- -01.03, for the use of safety glasses
- -01.04, for using opaque lenses
- -01.05, to cover the eyes
- -01.06, for glasses or contact lenses
The license can and should be renewed after its issuance if the driver develops visual impairment over time due to natural or unnatural reasons, so as not to face a problem in the event of an inspection by the authorities.
Article 101 of the Greek Traffic Code (ΚΟΚ) also includes non-visually impaired drivers if they operate a motorcycle, regardless of its type. KO requires motorcyclists to use safety glasses unless their helmet has a “clear protective coating,” commonly called clear gelcoat. In case of non-compliance with the rules on the part of the motorcyclist, the fine is 200 euros.
Riding a motorcycle without protective glasses and a helmet that does not have helmet gel is extremely dangerous; the likelihood of something getting into the motorcyclist's eyes is very high, as is the possibility of a complete loss of control over the motorcycle with tragic consequences for the motorcyclist himself or other road users.
