For an outstanding three-day weekend, residents of the metropolis flooded the ports in order to catch the ship and set sail.
Yesterday, a total of 42,239 passengers departed from Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio. Confusion and crowds of people reigned in the ports from the very morning of Saturday. At the same time, the port administration took all necessary measures to alleviate the situation with passengers who rushed to the islands en masse. Those who were going to sail had to arrive at the pier an hour before the scheduled departure time of the ferry. The result was confusion and confusion. Occupancy on most ships reaches 100%.
As of today, 3/06, 14 routes are planned from the port of Piraeus, 40 from the Argosaronic Islands, 14 from the port of Rafina and 8 from Lavrio. The occupancy of ships for the main routes to the Cyclades and the Argosaronic Islands in many cases reaches 100%.
In particular, 21 ships, 19,451 passengers, 2,551 cars, 767 trucks and 672 two-wheelers left the port of Piraeus.
41 ships were sent to the Argosaronic Islands, with 8648 passengers, 1123 cars, 42 trucks and 317 two-wheelers.
18 ships left the port of Rafina with 9649 passengers, 3998 cars, 104 trucks and 237 two-wheelers.
11 ships with 4,491 passengers, 1,250 cars, 32 trucks and 110 two-wheeled vehicles departed from Lavrio.
Acting Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Thodoris Kliaris, during his visit yesterday to the port of Piraeus, said that passenger traffic is especially high and added that the ministry, together with the port administration, is making every effort both for the orderly operation of ports and the readiness of seaworthy vessels. The expert described the part of the safety of navigation as extremely important, stressing that regular and extraordinary checks are carried out to make sure that ships are ready for voyages.
