Six migrant bodies recovered from sunken boat off Mykonos

The bodies of five people were recovered from a migrant boat that capsized near Mykonos last Friday, and the body of one woman washed ashore on the island of Antiparos.

A special squad of divers on Tuesday removed the bodies of four women and a man from a boat, sunken at a depth of 30 meters on Friday, May 26, northeast of the island of Mykonos.

The bodies were picked up by a Coast Guard patrol boat and taken to Kalafati Bay and from there to the Mykonos Medical Center.

Earlier Tuesday, the body of a woman, who was also a passenger on the same ship carrying migrants, was found washed up on the rocky coast of Antiparos.

The body was identified by two shipwreck survivors.

The latest discovery brings the confirmed death toll from the accident to nine (seven women and two men).

Two survivors rescued by Greek authorities told Coast Guard officers that there were 17 people on the sunken boat, including four to five women and a seven-year-old girl.

The Coast Guard continues to search for the missing passengers.
