Debate continues over a new European Union-level surveillance law that would allow all citizens’ communications to be monitored EU.
Council of Europe lawyers argue that the EC is going too far to legitimize the constant monitoring of messages of all EU citizens in search of illegal content, but the European Commission defends its plans, writes BB.LV. The European Commission wants to start monitoring the messages of all Europeans in order to detect child pornography.
German technology portal heise.de tellsthat the proposal was rejected by the lawyers of the European Council of Ministers, who said that watching people on messaging apps, without any suspicion, would be too much an invasion of privacy. This opinion means that the EC is now much more difficult to push through this law.
But she won’t give up, and she’s not alone. Although German lawyers also concluded that such a law would violate people’s fundamental rights, many countries, according to the publication, are in favor of such control over messaging applications. Moreover, some states want to extend this control to voice messages.
