Professor Panagiotis Behrakis, Head of the Hellenic Cancer Society’s Smoke-Free Greece initiative, is honored by the World Health Organization (WHO) along with other annual awards for tobacco control at an event in Ljubljana on Thursday.
The Society said in a statement that Panagiotis Behrakis is considered an expert in the field of tobacco control and represents Greece in the activities of the European Union and WHO related to smoking. He is also coordinator of the European Joint Action I Program on Tobacco Control, the report said.
In 2019, the ND government, upon coming to power, introduced strict smoking bans in public places and urban transport (private and public). Fines range from 500 to 10,000 euros.
