A life-and-death struggle unfolded on the eve of tomorrow’s elections between socialists and conservatives.
Last speeches, generous promises and recriminations were heard yesterday from both sides, “pushing” the Greek voters to make the “right choice.”
In the general elections in Greece on May 21, the main confrontation will be between the radical right conservative New Democracy and the radical left coalition SYRIZA. Both blocs vied with each other in accusing each other of creating all the economic, and not only, problems in Greece.
One of the last speeches of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Prime Minister of the country, took place in Thessaloniki. He noted that the main bet now is on the stability of governance, emotionally criticizing SYRIZA for its plan, which could lead to new shocks in the Greek economy:
“Today, Tsipras is again cutting the budget by 83 billion and at the same time screaming for “justice everywhere.” Justice, however, does not concern him, given the unanimous conviction in the Special Court [экс-министра в кабинете Ципраса] Nikos Pappas. The question to be answered on Sunday is: Do we want stability or adventure? In other words, do we want a New Democracy government led by Mitsotakis or a SYRIZA government led by Tsipras? The choice is in your hands!”.
Alexis Tsipras, ex-Prime Minister of Greece in 2015-2019, did not remain in debt, speaking in Athens. He is calling for a vote for his party to stop the “nightmare of Mitsotakis’ rule.” The politician is confident that a progressive government will come to power on Monday and called on all progressive parties to the upcoming negotiations on its formation:
“Today, honestly and openly, we ask the Greek people not for a second chance to rule. This is the first chance to manage our program as we want and without obligations, without memorandums, without the “troika” of creditors, without [Вольфганга] Schäuble without all those who impose politics from the outside. This is what voting for SYRIZA means and the changes that are coming: it means higher wages, lower prices, the abolition of debt, and a just, efficient and strong welfare state that will stand by the citizens. This is what it means to vote for SYRIZA.”
