ΕΛΣΑΤ: what goods have increased in price

Annual inflation in April 2023, according to ΕΛΣΑΤ, compared to April 2022 is 3%, in April 2022 the growth was 10.2% compared to 2021.

The Greek Statistical Office ΕΛΣΑΤ officially announces that the consumer price index (CPI) for the twelve-month period from May 2022 to April 2023 showed an increase (at a twelve-month change) of 3.0%. When comparing the overall CPI for April 2023 with the corresponding one for April 2022, an increase of 3% was obtained against an increase of 10.2%, which occurred in the corresponding comparison of 2022 with 2021.

Biggest annual increase (April 2023):

  • 11.4% in the group “Food and non-alcoholic drinks”mainly due to rising prices for bread and cereals, meat, fish, dairy products and eggs, oils and fats, vegetables, sugar-chocolate-ice cream, other food products, coffee-cocoa-tea, mineral water-soft drinks-fruit juices.
  • 4.0% in the group “Alcoholic drinks and tobacco products”mainly due to the increase in prices for the corresponding range of goods.
  • 5.6% in the group “Clothes and shoes” in connection with the increase in prices for the corresponding range of goods.
  • 10.9% in the group “Durable goods”mainly due to rising prices for furniture and decor items, household appliances and their repairs, tableware and household items, as well as basic necessities, household services.
  • 6.5% in the group “Health”mainly due to rising prices for pharmaceutical products, medical products, medical, dental and paramedical services, inpatient treatment.
  • 1.4% in the Transportation group, mainly due to rising prices for new cars, used cars, mopeds-motorcycles, auto parts and accessories, maintenance and repair of personal equipment, transport, taxis, tickets for passenger transport, tickets for air passenger transport, tickets for ships (ferries). Part of this increase was offset mainly by lower prices for fuels and lubricants..
  • 3.7% in the group “Leisure-Cultural Activities”mainly due to rising prices for durable goods for recreation and entertainment, small leisure items-flowers-animals, cinemas-theaters, stationery and design materials.
  • 2.2% in the group “Education”mainly due to higher prices for fees for additional education (language courses, etc.).
  • 8.5% in the “Hotels-Cafes-Restaurants” group, mainly due to the increase in prices in catering establishments and the provision of meals (breakfasts) in motels-hotels.
  • 6.4% in the “Other goods and services” group, mainly due to price growth in hairdressing salons, beauty salons, etc.
