Valencia launches 4-day workweek pilot project

Testing of the new schedule will continue for a month, using four holiday Mondays, from April 10 to May 7. The goal of the initiative is to find out its impact on “civil aspects” and not just on business, finance or public administration, as is done in other countries, the consistory insists. “This is not a reduction in working hours, since the annual accounting for hours worked will not be reduced. This is not a time reduction program. This is not our problem, this is the problem of the employer, workers and negotiations in this area. It’s about testing, experiencing, within the axis of innovation, which is meant for people. We are working on things that directly benefit people, many of which are related to the organization of society.”

Thanks to this initiative, the mayor emphasizes, Valencia becomes “the first city in the world to implement a pilot project for a 32-hour working day for a month” with a civic and non-business approach. The project started on April 10th.
