Fraudsters brought counterfeit eggs into Greece

A truck carrying 302,400 eggs, which were supposed to be sold on the Greek market in the run-up to Easter, was stopped for inspection. And, as it turned out, not in vain.

On the eve of Easter, ΣΔΟΕ and the relevant control services are intensifying checks on products imported into our country from abroad. As happens every year, scammers illegally turn foreign products into “local, Greek”. That is, the low price for them becomes “sky-high”, as if by a wave of the hand. At the same time, the difference is put into the pocket of people who decide to cash in on consumers in such a simple way.

In particular, during checks carried out by employees of the Main Directorate of ΣΔΟΕ in vehicles on the country’s road network on Thursday (06.04), a truck was found that transported eggs from Bulgaria, the vast majority of which did not have the necessary markings.

Reportedly, “following a direct agreement reached by a working group of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food with the competent services of the Department of Veterinary Control of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, as well as ΣΔΟΕ and ΕΛΑΣ, the shipment was confiscated. Further, food products were transported to a protected area for further control and investigation of the route of the cargo. ΣΔΟΕ continues its relentless fight against violations of the rules of sale and circulation, is in constant cooperation with all competent agencies, working groups and other prosecution authorities in order to reduce the risk to public health and effectively protect consumers from counterfeit products.
