Moldova signed a contract with Greece on the supply of blue fuel

Dependent on Russian gas supplies, Moldova has signed a framework agreement with the Greek state company DEPA Commercial.

The Moldovan state utility company Energocom spoke about the agreement, reports national TV channel TV8. It was signed in Athens during an official visit to Greece by Minister of Energy Viktor Parlikov and head of the state company Energocom Viktor Binzar.

Greece is considered to be a strategic point with affordable energy sources, where an LNG terminal is already operating, and the second one will be completed before the end of the year. The head of Energocom said that traders in the region supply gas at favorable prices from several geographic locations, including the US, East and Africa.

The contract precedes any sales contract and is binding between companies in the European Union. Minister of Energy Parlikov says:

“Cooperation between Moldova and Greece will increase the role of underground gas fields in Ukraine to provide Central Europe with natural gas during the cold season of the current year. Energocom’s experience last season in using the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector showed the possibility of using the trans-Balkan gas pipeline in reverse mode.”

Moldova was almost completely dependent on the Russian “Gazprom” for the import of blue fuel. Natural gas deliveries were often accompanied by disputes between Moldova and Russia.
