An earthquake in the sea area, 39 km southwest of the island of Kythnos, occurred on March 31 at 19.05 and had an unusually large source depth.
According to the Geodynamic Institute, the magnitude of the earthquake was 4.8 on the Richter scale, and the depth of the source was calculated at 114.7 km.
No damage or casualties were reported.
The earthquake was faintly felt in various places in the Attica metropolitan area and the Peloponnese, while it is noteworthy that the tremors were also recorded by the Turkish disaster response service AFAD, which reported that “the epicenter was in the Aegean Sea, about 200 kilometers from Smyrna“.
