Bad weather: the roof of the house collapsed on the sidewalk

The roof of a house collapsed due to a gale-force wind that “hardly walked” through Thessaloniki in the morning.

According to available information, a tree grew inside the old building, the trunk of which, swaying under the gusts of wind, touched the masonry and tiles. This, as a result, led to the collapse of the roof. At that moment, a teenager walked by, walking his dog. Luckily, the boy and dog were not hurt and are now in good health.

As a result of the collapse of part of the house, none of the cars parked nearby were injured. The municipal authorities of Thessaloniki are looking for the owner of an abandoned house.

The representative of the press service of the fire department, Yannis Artopios, in an interview with journalists of the ERT channel warned the public, noting that today and tomorrow there will be “dangerous days that will require special attention from citizens due to bad weather.” In particular, he warned farmers to avoid any work with fire. And the rest of the citizens – so that they are very careful, do not drive and do not park under trees, and near the walls of dilapidated housing.

“Today and tomorrow, we must not burn anything under any pretext in order to prevent fires, especially in rural areas,” the specialist said, citing Mainalo as an example, where wind force exceeded 10 points on the Beaufort scale. At the same time, he said that there were already reports of fallen trees in Thessaloniki and Attica.
