Greeks are preparing for Easter: tickets for ferries have already begun to sell out

The Greeks, these “advanced children” who are always striving to “rush somewhere”, despite the fact that the anniversary of the revolution on March 25 has not yet been celebrated, have already rushed to secure a rest for Easter. That is why ferry tickets began to disappear from sales.

It is expected that the best (read, profitable) in recent years will be Easter this season for coastal shipping. Despite the fact that it is still relatively early to prepare for the holiday, the offices of travel agents and ferry companies have already begun booking and issuing tickets at fares higher than last year’s pre-Easter period. Recall that Easter in 2022 was on April 24, i.e. a week later than this.

So, everything indicates that the traffic will be much better than last year, if, of course, the weather permits.

In 2022, passenger traffic was down by about 20% compared to 2019, the best year ever.

Ticket prices will remain the same or increase slightly after a sharp increase in 2021/2022. About 250,000 passengers are expected to depart from Attica’s three major ports (Piraeus, Rafina, Lavrio) for the Aegean islands in the week before Easter. Holiday homes on the islands will reopen at the same time as some hotels will also be open, with most of them opening after the first of May.

Recall that last year (the first without restrictive measures after the pandemic), more than 210,000 travelers departed from the ports of Attica for the Easter holidays (from 15 to 25 April). According to the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, 166,609 passengers and 26,695 vehicles departed from the port of Piraeus for the Cyclades, Dodecanese, Crete and the Argosaronic Islands. 38,726 passengers and 10,088 vehicles left the port of Rafina, and 12,259 passengers and 3,447 vehicles departed from the port of Lavrio.

Ferry executives estimate that as Easter approaches, traffic will especially increase, as people are now constantly looking for opportunities to travel.
