Unthinkable queues in Thessaloniki for a portion of cod

Incredibly, this year once again (as in previous years) in the eateries and taverns of Thessaloniki today there were long queues of citizens wishing to purchase a portion of “garlic cod”.

In principle, as is usually the case before any revered holiday, which in Greece is celebrated with a certain traditional dish, the price of it rises sharply. Thus, the townspeople, on reflection, did not buy raw fish and cook it at home, they considered that they would “get by” with a portion from the diner, since “there is less trouble and more savings.”

According to thes.gr, many people, intending to avoid the hassle of cooking, have chosen to “taste cod” in the city’s catering, in connection with which there is such pandemonium. The reporter’s camera caught long queues of citizens at the doors of eateries selling cod.

It should be noted that the price of cod this year is especially high. A favorite dish of many Greeks, usually served on March 25, for many consumers became inaccessible, since 1 kilogram costs 23 euros (!). According to MEGA, first-class cod from Iceland costs between 19.80 and 22.80 euros per kilogram, while last year it cost between 18 and 20 euros.

Most consumers bought cod in advance and cooked it at home. Well, those who did not have time or decided to have lunch in a public catering, despite the fact that they had to stand in line for a while, probably thought: “It doesn’t matter, because the weather is great today!”.
