Investigators are looking for the organizers of the arson of the restaurant "Cavaliere"

The investigation into the circumstances of the fire that destroyed Cavaliere, one of the capital’s most famous Italian restaurants, on March 24, was taken up by the anti-racketeering department of the capital’s prosecutor’s office.

Investigators are trying to put together puzzle pieces that will help them find traces of the perpetrators involved in the Nea Smyrna restaurant arson. Law enforcement officers are also looking for the customer who gave the attackers the order to “destroy”.

According to the latest information available to the media, investigators believe that the arsonists wanted not only to warn the owners of the establishment, but to completely destroy their restaurant, causing total destruction. Investigators came to this conclusion because if the attackers had sent a message about the upcoming arson, the damage would certainly have been less, and there would have been no risk of loss of life.

According to extortion prosecutors who took on the case, the two or three people who smashed the windows of the restaurant acted as punishers. They flooded the store with flammable liquid (probably gasoline). Thus, they created an explosive mixture inside the restaurant, after which they threw a flare inside, which caused the fire to spread from one end of the room to the other in record time. At the time of the attack, an employee was inside the restaurant who was cleaning. Fortunately, he was able to leave the premises and was not injured.

“I work in a store as a cleaner. Someone broke the glass, then a fire broke out and fled. I was alone inside and immediately went out.”

Smoke and heat from the fire began to threaten the inhabitants of the apartments located above the restaurant. Firefighters evacuated 4 people, including a baby, while their colleagues fought to keep the fire from spreading to the interior of the building’s upper floors. This fact proves once again that the perpetrators did not care about the amount of destruction they could cause. Be it property damage or loss of life.

Since the arson, law enforcement officials have been trying to gather evidence that will help them identify – if possible – the two or three perpetrators who have brought terror and destruction to Eleftheriou Venizelo Avenue in Nea Smyrna. Investigators are checking security camera footage from nearby shops and buildings, as well as any footage that might be useful in identifying the perpetrators.

It is noteworthy that, according to the owners of the restaurant, they did not receive any threats.
