Unemployment: Greece in first place in the EU – 3 out of 10 young people are unemployed

According to the latest data published by Eurostat, Greece once again, for another year in a row, leads the way in terms of youth unemployment in 2022.

It is noted that in accordance with the criteria EU (used in the survey), persons who are unemployed are those who:

  • were ready to start work within the next two weeks,
  • have been actively looking for a job in the last four weeks,
  • have already found a job and are ready to start it within the next three months.

Long-term unemployed are those who meet the above conditions and have been unemployed for 12 months or more.

Among the European countries surveyed in terms of unemployment among youth aged 15-24, Greece recorded the highest percentage (31.4%). Spain is in second place with 29.8% and Italy is third with 23.7%.

On the other hand, in Germany there is the lowest percentage (5.9%) unemployment. The Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Malta, and Austria remain low, up to 10%.
