The ICC responded to the threats

The International Criminal Court has responded to threats made in connection with the issuance of a warrant for the arrest of the President of Russia.

The Presidium of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute declared its unshakable support for the International Criminal Court, which was literally bombarded with threats. IN press release The ICC says:

“The Presidency deplores these attempts to hinder international efforts to secure accountability for acts that are prohibited by general international law. We reaffirm our full confidence in the Court as an independent, impartial judicial institution and reiterate our firm commitment to uphold and defend the principles and values enshrined in the Rome statute, preserve its integrity. The ICC embodies our collective commitment to fight impunity for the most serious international crimes. We call on all states to respect the independence of the judiciary and prosecution.”

Reference. The Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute is the governing supervisory and legislative body of the International Criminal Court. It consists of representatives of countries that have ratified or acceded to this statute.

Meanwhile, Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev claims that Ukraine is part of Russia, and the West underestimated the Kremlin’s determination to start a war, quotes RIA News:

“Moreover, Ukraine is generally a part of Russia, to be honest, it is a part of Russia. But due to geopolitical reasons and due to the history of what happened, we put up with the fact that we live in different apartments for a long time.”

According to him, most of the Ukrainian territory was originally inhabited by the Russian population, which was part of “big Russia, not small Russia.” And he got the impression that the Western countries simply did not see the “degree of determination” of Russia to start a war in Ukraine, and therefore they “miscalculated”:

“Therefore, it is pointless to negotiate with some countries, blocs, communities of countries – they understand only the language of force. Only the language of force!”
