James Cleverly: "There is no nuclear escalation"

James Cleverly, British Foreign Secretary, dismisses Vladimir Putin’s accusations of supplying munitions containing depleted uranium.

Explaining the reasons for the supply of such ammunition to Ukraine, Cleverly, as quotes Deutsche Welle says:

“There is no nuclear escalation. The only country in the world that talks about nuclear issues is Russia. There is no threat to Russia, it is only about helping Ukraine defend itself.”

Two days ago, on March 21, the UK Ministry of Defense confirmed that, as part of military assistance, it would supply Ukraine with ammunition containing depleted uranium, that is, less radioactive than natural uranium. Such ammunition, due to its density and other physical properties, can more easily penetrate tanks and armored vehicles. A spokesman for the Department of Defense stated:

“The British Army has been using depleted uranium in its armor-piercing rounds for decades. It’s a standard component that has nothing to do with nuclear weapons or potential. Russia knows about it, but is deliberately trying to misinform.”

According to DW, during a joint press conference between the President of Russia and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Putin indicated that in the event of such supplies, Moscow would be forced to respond “in an appropriate manner.”
