Metro in Thessaloniki will be put into operation on December 31

Attiko Metro President Nikos Tahiaos and Managing Director Nikos Kouretas expressed their confidence in faithful adherence to the schedule for the commissioning of the Thessaloniki Metro with a final date of December 31, 2023.

During a visit by a delegation from the TEE/Department of Central Macedonia to the metro station, officials highlighted the high standards of the Thessaloniki Metro’s security systems. At Venizelu station, slab concreting was completed this week and the railway infrastructure is ready for a trial period, TEE/TKM said in a statement. In addition, the return of antiquities to Venizelos station will begin in the coming days so that they can be moved exactly where they were. As for trains, the purchase of another 15 rolling stock has begun, the delivery of which is scheduled for the end of 2024. The capacity of each train will be 450 passengers, and the frequency of movement in each direction (during peak hours) will be one and a half minutes. In June of this year, the installation of cash desks and turnstiles begins. Passenger transportation will be carried out along one line with a length of 9.6 km with 13 stations:
