Since today, 57 cypress trees stand at the entrance to the city of Karpenisi in memory of the victims of the national tragedy in Tempi, which killed mostly young children, many of whom were students.
According to local media, the Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Management (Karpenisi) of the Agricultural University of Athens has begun an act of remembrance and respect for the 57 fellow citizens who died in the tragic accident in Tempi. At the suggestion of the rector of the educational institution, Mr. Spyros Kinzios, 57 cypress trees were planted at the entrance to the city of Karpenisi. The trees were planted by students of the Agricultural University, professors, employees and representatives of the Karpenisi Municipality. In the coming days, the municipality will take care to install an appropriate sign informing passers-by.
“This is a symbolic act of remembrance,” Mr. K. Kintzios said. “Today, on World Forestry Day, we have begun a symbolic planting of trees so that people remember the tragic event that shocked us all, and so that such accidents do not happen again. Gradually, a small grove will be created in this place in memory of our dead, our children, our students,” says Prof. Spiros Kaloudis.
