Dozens of dead dolphins found on Ile de Ré beaches in just 3 days

Mass release of dead dolphins on the beaches of the Atlantic coast environmentalists associated with the weather and fishing.

In the last three days alone, at least fifteen dead cetaceans have been found. The first deputy mayor of Ars-en-Ré, Etienne Caillaux, laments:

“We are always hurt by these things because we love dolphins, they are part of the ecosystem. They are important to us, and – especially since this is not an isolated case, it is obvious that there are dolphins all over the coast, and every year more and more more – it is very disturbing that so many dead animals appear on the coast.”

The protest action was held on Tuesday in Strasbourg, near the building of the European Parliament. Members of the environmental organization Sea Shepherd laid out the bloody corpses of dolphins right on the square in the hope that EU force France to stop indiscriminate fishing. Frédéric Pizzol, co-mission leader of Sea Shepherd France, says:

“We came to the European Parliament because today the French state is doing nothing, there are no effective measures to protect dolphins. The European Commission asked France to act, but nothing is being done. We ask Europe to be more intransigent on this issue.”
