Thousands of citizens from the morning went to the demonstration in the center of Athens in connection with the tragedy – the railway accident in Tempi.
Youth, students, workers and pensioners blocked the streets in the area of Syntagma-Panepistimiou and Stadiou, creating a tense emotional atmosphere. The public is indignant about what happened on the fateful night of February 28 and the reaction of the authorities.
“We won’t let this thing go! This is a crime for which there will be no statute of limitations! We will become the voice of the dead to protect them!” said KKE general secretary Dimitris Koutsoubas. The protesters are expected to proceed to the offices ΟΣΕ.
Law enforcement in Greece ΕΛΑΣ began to regulate traffic in the center of Athens in connection with the planned rallies and protest marches outside the walls of parliament.
In particular the movement of vehicles on Vasilisis Amalias Avenue was stopped from the columns of Olympian Zeus (στύλους του Ολυμπίου Διός), according to you. Sofias (from the height of Sekeri), as well as along the streets of Panepistimiou and Stadiou.
Subway stations are closed. In particular, due to protests at Syntagma, the Syntagma and Panepistimiou metro stations are closed at 10:30 am, and trains will pass through them without stopping. By order of ΕΛΑΣ, Omonia and Monastiraki metro stations are closed from 12:00.
