As part of the verification of information about a woman smuggling tobacco products, the identities of two defendants were identified, whose illegal activities were confirmed.
Two foreigners, a 54-year-old and a 35-year-old, were arrested in a spontaneous procedure last Saturday morning (4/3) in Vathis Square for violating the National Customs Code and trade.
In particular, a woman, the owner of a store, was arrested for carefully hiding 378 packs of cigarettes and 26 packs of tobacco at the checkout, which did not have an indicative tape on the payment of consumption tax (excise duty).
In addition, a foreigner (a relative of a woman) was found near the store with a motorcycle belonging to him, inside of which 10 packs of cigarettes and 1 pack of tobacco were found. There were no excise markings on the products either.
After a search of the adjacent area used as a warehouse, another 10,490 packs of cigarettes and 247 packs of tobacco were found.
The arrested persons, against whom the case was initiated by the Omonia Police Department, were taken to the competent prosecutor’s office.
