Tomorrow, Sunday March 5, 24-hour strike in the subway and ΗΣΑΠ

On Sunday, March 5, a protest action is planned on Syntagma Square. Despite the 24-hour metro strike and ΗΣΑΠ, trains will run at certain times to help people get to the center of the capital.

The ΣΤΑΣΥ ΑΕ trade union, announcing a strike on metro lines 1, 2 and 3, specified that trains would run on the lines from 9 am to 4 pm and called for participation in a rally on Syntagma, which would begin at 11 am. The statement says:

“Shocked, shocked and deeply saddened by the terrible accident at Tempi, the magnitude of the disaster, we have no words to express our feelings in connection with a tragedy of unimaginable proportions. The pain of the families and relatives of the victims of the tragic railway accident cannot now be assuaged by words of comfort. Their grief finds universal support and sympathy that transcends the country. The ΣΗΕΚ, expressing its full support for the relatives of the victims, as well as the unions working in HELLENIC TRAIN, will hold a 24-hour strike on March 5 (lines 1, 2 and 3).Despite the written and verbal warnings of the unions workers about problems and gaps in the security system, the lack of protective measures, a serious shortage of personnel and equipment, the competent authorities turned out to be frankly deaf! Obviously, they are adherents of the principle “if a rollback does not occur, then we do not take measures to prevent it.” And now we are here, the failure has occurred and has reached unimaginable and unbearable proportions, causing us to ask the question “why?”. Why did huge omissions, criminal indifference in matters of security, unjustified delays cost the lives of so many innocent people, once and for all deprived their lips of a smile? The political responsibility for this is enormous, and we will not tolerate being passed on to scapegoats. Our demand is that justice be done!”

ΣΤΑΣΥ ΑΕ ends his address like this, quotes newsbeast.gr:

“Take immediate measures to restore and protect what is called “railway safety” so that a tragedy of this magnitude never happens again! at a rally to be held at Syntagma on Sunday, March 5 at 11 a.m. For this reason, trains will operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to facilitate the arrival of demonstrators at a rally organized by the railway unions.”
