Traveling by city public transport of thousands of high school students to and from school will now cost a pretty penny for their families.
A big problem arises from the fact that secondary school students who have reached the age of majority, while still attending school, cannot renew the personal discount card they use for their tripsby providing the appropriate certificate from your school to the competent service OASAbecause it is not provided by the current legislation.
In particular, children who have reached the age of majority but are in their last year of secondary school are asked to pay for daily full tickets (worth 1.20 euros) instead of being entitled to a reduced ticket (i.e. worth 0.60 euros). The result of this is significant financial burden on their familiesbecause once children reach the age of 18, the cost of their daily trips to school doubles, as well as other travel obligations due to educational, sporting and cultural events.
Management of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and Office of the Prime Minister must recognize this injustice. This is stated in a letter from the Federation of Parents and Guardians of Attica, sent to the competent authorities. Parents, in fact, are asking for an immediate solution to this issue through legislation, which should provide for:
a) Issuance of a special student card for free travel on public transport, valid from the beginning of the academic year until its end (regardless of the age of the student at school).
b) Reduced fare for all other transfers, on all other days and hours, in proportion to the relevant rule in force for school students.
