The Norwegian intelligence service NIS, in its annual report, announced the release of Russian ships with nuclear weapons to the sea – for the first time in thirty years.
How writes BB.LV referring to data NIS report, ships of the Russian Northern Fleet, for the first time in 3 decades, began to go to sea with tactical nuclear weapons on board. In Soviet times, the newspaper notes, warships of the Northern Fleet regularly went to sea with tactical nuclear weapons, but no such cases have been known since the Cold War.
Intelligence claims that after the start of the war in Ukraine, “the importance of nuclear weapons for Russia has increased significantly.” The main part of the nuclear potential is located on the submarines of the Northern Fleet and surface ships. The report emphasizes: “Nuclear weapons pose a particularly serious threat in options for operations in which NATO countries may participate.”
