Elon Musk’s SpaceX restricts Ukraine’s use of Starlink

SpaceX has stated that it is against the use of Starlink by Ukraine for offensive purposes, for military drones.

As tells ReutersStarlink’s president, Gwynne Shotwell, announced the restriction of Starlink Internet services:

“Satellite Internet was never intended to be used as a weapon. However, the Ukrainians used it in a way that was not part of any agreements.”

In an interview with reporters, the president of the company explained that the Ukrainian military used the Starlink service to control combat drones, and stated:

“There are things we can do to limit their options. And we’ve already done them.”

According to Shotwell, the supply of Starlink to Ukraine was intended for humanitarian purposes – to provide access to Internet banks, hospitals, to help families affected by the Russian invasion:

“We know the military uses it for communications, and that’s fine. But we never wanted them to use it offensively.”

The Office of the President of Ukraine reacted to the company’s decision and called on SpaceX “not to figure out how to harm.”

Meanwhile, the Minister of Digital Transformation Mikhail Fedorov commented on the information that SpaceX allegedly limited Ukraine’s use of the Starlink Internet to control drones. Asserts that there are no problems with the operation of the terminals.
