Greece sent a special search and rescue force to Turkey after 2 catastrophic earthquakes measuring 7.7 and 7.8 on the Richter scale devastated large areas in the southeast and north of Syria, in which thousands of people were killed and injured.
The strongest seismic vibrations were recorded in the central part and in the eastern regions of Turkey, tremors were felt in Ankara. The force of the elements was also felt in Damascus, Latakia and a number of other provinces of Syria, SANA reports.
Greece is one of the first countries to respond to Turkey’s call for help and assistance. The EMAK rescue team of the Hellenic Fire Service, consisting of 25 people, flew to the earthquake-hit region today. Meanwhile, the political leadership of Greece expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life on Twitter.
